Several of you have made comments about the Forum in the 'Re Come Back Denny' thread in Archers Discussion.

The idea we had was that anyone who wished could make a comment on any page in the site and that they wouldn't have to register to do so. This has had partial success for the Forum because the process is more complicated encorporating that idea as well as the usual Message Board procedure.

Someone has suggested an updated post marker, which we'll look into and we also feel that we can make the message lay-out more friendly. Captcha was set up in response to spammers trying to squat the site and is a sign of the times. By all means point us in the direction of effective alternatives.

Let us have your suggestions too if you would like to share them

Hi KP, thanks for giving us the chance to be suggestive again!

This is probably a big ask, but would it be possible for 'new' to appear alongside the appropriate category title whenever there's a reply to a thread?

I know the number of messages appear alongside thread titles on the first page of the Forum, but threads gradually work their way down the list and eventually disappear. There is then no way of knowing when there are new replies.

I'm guessing this would be technically complicated, but it was just a thought.

Thanks Vicky - it is technically complicated, as you suggest, and an expensive procedure too. What is 'new' for you isn't 'new' for me so the system has to read activity in each person's computer. I think this is why it's not so common a feature with MBds now. However, we have a couple of thoughts on the subject as we completely agree with you about how frustrating this can be
