    The Ambridge Calendar.

Instead of delightful countryside scenes and well-observed animals, the majority of photos include actors.

Well, Great Steam Trains of Britain wil be 1914's choice.

I came across this recipe on the BBC food website for some Archers lavender shortbread biscuits original baked by Ian the chef at Grey Gables. Thought I should share this here so others can try it out.

I am going to make some for family hampers at Christmas and for the hamper we make for our holiday cottage guests at Royal Cottage in Norfolk. I will be posting on our blog with updates on how they go. Just infusing the lavender sugar at the moment!

I have not listened to the Archers for 52 years and remember having to record it for my father when he was at work on a reel to reel tape recorder with the microphone propped in front of the radio, the only technology available. owing to an enforced period of sick now listening to the Archers again, simply unmissable as i remember it always was.

I was just catching up with Downton Abbey (like The Archers - only they change for dinner) when, fast forwarding the advert break, who should whizz by but the lovely Alison Dowling (aka Elizabeth Pargetter)? Even as a blur I recognised those beautiful big eyes and bouncing curls. So, things at Lower Loxley must be a bit tight if she's moonlighting for Aviva! KW

Tim Yeo says the Prime Mnister should say if he is a man or a mouse. We should all remember what happened to Nigel when those words were uttered on the roof at Lower Loxley.

Have you heard Charles Collingwood on Just a Minute ?
    He was brilliant!

It's on iPlayer on the BBC website (Episode 2) for this week I think - listen if you can, it was most enjoyable.
  • ruth's health

Having gone through breast cancer and recon, I am bemused that Ruth never seems to have check ups, medical appointments re taking/finishing tamoxifen etc,or indeed even thinks about or talks about the experience with David,or goes on any breast cancer charity runs with Pip. Particularly now with all this dreadful anxiety over Adam's court case, you would at least think David,Jill or her own mum , let alone herself, might be concerned the stress might not be good for her in particular. Not wishing to over exaggerate what she went through, every one does seem to have totally forgotten all about it rather too rapidly and maybe the script writers should think about keeping tags on this story thread.
  • Yes, Prime Minister with Graham Seed

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 22/04/2012 10:05:47 by Hamster
I went to York Theatre Royal to see this last night and it was brilliant.

It's a bit hard moving Graham on to Jim Hacker from Nigel Pargetter but both are eccentric characters which seem to suit Graham.

I can thoroughly recommend seeing this production, it's clever, funny, entertaining and well acted, and sadly very topical!

It is touring the country so watch local press for when it reaches you.
  • Just A Minute

I am enjoying watching the special 45th Anniversary episodes of Just A Minute on BBC 2 for the past couple of weeks. The episode where Nicholas Parsons recited "The Owl and the pussycat" without hesitation , repetition or deviation is one of my favourate episodes. However, I think it is a shame that Charles Collingwood has not featured on the panel of any of the episodes.

  • A Tip for Podcast Collectors...

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 16/10/2011 21:42:07 by Still_Cedric
I've told several people privately, but I wanted to post about a very useful tool for gathering BBC podcasts with only minimal interaction from you.

It's a free Windows program called Radio Downloader and can be found here:

    http://www.nerdoftheherd.com/tools/radiodld/

Once installed, it allows you to subscribe to BBC podcasts (and others via RSS) and it will download them for you in the background. There is a built-in program guide that makes it easy to build your subscription list.

The BBC changes their podcast process from time to time and I know other similar programs that once worked no longer do. The developer of this program regularly updates it and I've never missed a download while using it.

Sorry to sound like an advert (or one of Brenda's pamphlets), but I wanted to make everyone aware of this useful (& free) program.

    Apparently there are moves afoot to try and make everyone listen differently;

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/8246461/BBC-radio-chief-The-Archers-must-avoid-more-sensationalist-storylines.html

Now, literally apart from The Archers, I do not any longer listen to radio 4 (since they did all those spoiler trailers about Wm and Em Grundy). I only listen to BBC7, and Radio 3 sometimes, So it won't be any hardship for me to listen to the Programme on 7.

But I would be interested to know what audience research has been done, resulting in the idea that "the audience are fascinated as to what happens behind the scenes."
Nobody I know is in the least interested in technicalities, or in the soundalikes who apparently are actors, we all just seem to enjoy a contemporary drama in a rural setting, as drama qua drama.

How would I find out who commissioned the research? Anybody know who to contact about such things?
