Does anyone remember tha Christmas Special when the BBC broadcast a special about the war 1st or 2nd I'm not sure. If so can I get a recording?

Hi Michael

This went out Christmas 1988 and was a play called The Ambridge Chronicles based on Jock Gallagher's novel To The Victor The Spoils - which covered the period 1914-22. Forebears of the Archers, Grundys, Gabriels, Forrests etc were played by some of the then cast members.

The blurb ran: The Ambridge Summer fete; where young Dan Archer sees Doris Forrest, where the band is chivvied along by a teenage Walter Gabriel, while, a world away in Sarajevo, a shot has sounded that will change everyone's lives.

Hope you find this of interest, but doubt whether you will be able to get a recording.

Yes..and I have a copy of the book.. "To The Victor The Spoils" (well it's a triology with "Return to Ambridge" and "Borchester Echoes"). In "To The Victor Spoils" Dan returns from the battlefields of WWI to take over at Brookfield and it captures the "atmosphere, the struggles and triumps, loves and losses of rural farming life in the early Twenties". It's easy reading and added to my already extensive Ambridge world!!Abebooks.com is where I found it (although it's awhile ago) but I think there are still copies available.Px
