I had almost got my husband converted to the Archers until Paul came on the scene - now if Paul comes on he switches his radio off . Enough of Paul & Lillian ----!!!
  • Help on the dog-fighting raid

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 04/05/2013 19:19:35 by noel
Can someone please tell me, did I miss an episode in which the raid on the dogfights occurred? It seems that the show just picked up the day after the raid. I get the show on iTunes here in the states and when I went back I could not find anything that I missed.
  • How annoying is Pip

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 02/05/2013 14:24:49 by countrydweller
Please can she be written out of the series - i think the fire at the barn was such a missed opportunity! Her character is beyond annoying - ungrateful, whining and completely self obsessed (incidentally, the actress's high pitched whinny voice makes me want to switch off the radio). And, why has Paul suddenly developed an east end gangster's accent... is it to imply, less than subtly, that he is a baddy...? and now i guess Tom is about to date Kirstie - it's all so obvious...
  • OMG! Pip's accident! You could've waited a little longer

Well its not even the start of the week and already The Archies has released its bit of excitment, namely, Pip's car accident after storming off from her cross daddy. Oh its stretching my adoration for The Archers a little too much. Don't know how much longer I stand the excitment! Ease up, please, Writer Chaps 'n Chappettes. You should be giving us just little to whet our imaginations not shoving the storylines at us!
  • Can Someone Fill me in re Lillian and Paul Please?

I'm just back from my Easter hols, and need to catch up with my favourite storyline at the moment: Lillian and Paul. Did he ask her to leave it all for a month or something? and where did it all go wrong about a week ago? Why did he cut her off?
It's driving me mad waiting for the denouement, but keeps me listening!
    Thanks folks! x
  • RUBBISH PLOTLINES

I have been listening to the Archers since it began and am about to switch off for ever. I am SICK TO DEATH of Tom Archers Ready Meals, Pip's Schizophrenia and now Pauls STUPID STUPID STUPID storyline. Lilian was the one thing worth listening to but after yesterday's episode I give up! Could the writers also bear in miond that this is RADIO and it's not a good idea to introduce 3 new characters in the space of 2 days (Tom's employeee & 2 people at WI).
    Disgusted.
  • Alice's arrogance!

Amazing, in this economy Alice has a job, starting at the bottom as everyone does. why does she think she is entitled to more or that her career is ruined because she looked elsewhere? usual Aldridge, get to Canada ASAP!

Anyone listen to Broadcasting house on Radio 4 this morning? They are asking for listeners to send in their own plot lines. My favourite so far-
"Helen takes a tumble into a vat of Borsetshire Blue. The stirrers come on and a new cheese is created; Borsetshire Red."

  • Signing off after many years

I can no longer be bothered with the dumbed down sensational plotlines where well established characters seem to undergo repeated personality transplants to suit the totally telegraphed storylines. How long before there is a fire at the Rovers/Vic/Bull? or Daryl is murdered by his underworld cronies? or Ian suddenly realises he isn't gay after all and elopes with Helen?
Where have we seen it all before?... Many times
Long live the lowest common denominator.
    Bye Bye Ambridge

After 35 years of listening to the Archers I feel I have to comment on whats happening plot wise. Are the script writers from the same school/thinking as Eastenders WHY IS IT SO MISERABLE. Whilst i realise that s..t happens we are not all neck deep in it all of the time, there are periods of light and it must be said joy. So please can we have some balance

  • Too many accidents and medical emergencies!

I'm sorry, but this business with Chris Carter is failing to move me or grip me in the way that it should and I can only put it down to overkill and a worn-out plot device. Over the past few years, Nigel's been killed in a roof-fall, Lizzie has been rushed to hospital with her heart problems (2011?), Tony's had a heart attack, Adam's been knocked unconscious (2012) and now we've got Chris Carter in intensive care and, as if rib damage/concussion wasn't enough, Wed's episode brought a perforated intestine, followed by Thursday's breathing problems. Tonight, no doubt, he'll have contracted bubonic plague---well, no actually, that might be a melodrama too far! But I'm sorry--if this plot device is used too often, it just loses impact. I don't like to grumble, but.....I'm afraid this is beginning to feel farcical.

It will be sad if Chris dies but I do think this story line is going well and feel sorry for Alice that's she's trying to get back from Canada and it has to take so long. I shall look forward to today's episode to see what the outcome is for Chris.
  • That will teach you Alice

I always thought Chris could do better than Alice. Please don't let him be the one that gets killed off (Have we had this years killing of a major character yet?)Perhaps we should have Alice being maulled by a Canadian Beaver on her way back to the airport just as Chris makes a spectacular recovery.Far more satisfying in my book.
  • Proposterous drama

Honestly, The Archers gets more like Corrie or Eastenders every week. I liked the Archers for the very fact that it was NOT like those stupid soaps. Having been a listener for over 25 years I find it less and less essential that I tune in daily for the latest episode. It can only be a matter of time before someone wakes up in the shower and finds its all been a dream.
  • Agricultural Wages Board

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 23/02/2013 16:45:57 by Danno
The Archers always prides itself on using current countryside news within the script. So, how come one of the biggest things to affect farming in many years has not had a mention? I refer to the CONDEMS proposal to abolish the Agricultural Wages Board which sets the wages of farm labourers. The proposal will allow farmers to cut farm labourers wages and conditions to min wage levels.
Naturally, the Country Side Alliance, National Farmers Union and the Land Owners Association are rubbing their greedy little hands with glee. Now it seems the script writers of the Archers agree with them.

Please let us have a sensible Storyline with Lilian and Matt! She is too sensible to be carrying on on like a Teenager. Who on Earth is writing the Storylines!

Considering what happened to her Uncle Nigel, Pip had better change her attitude before her Dad decides to take her for a walk on the roof.

Lynda can be a bit silly, no doubt, but she's a good sort and certainly a great source of comfort and support to Vicky. A good friend, and we all need those.

How old is Lillian Bellamy, and what on earth does she see in Matt?

Be careful Lilian, I think that youir better half might be getting a little bit suspicious and when he finds out..oh boy!

And for what it's worth, I also think that Paul's a bit of a slimeball and could even be married with six kids...there'll be tears before bedtime, mark my words!
  • Lack of research again!

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 03/01/2013 20:43:51 by Hamster
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!
The researchers haven't done their job again have they - Whitby is my home town! And I love to pick the plots apart so here we go -

    1. There isn't a spa hotel in Whitby unless you count Raithwaite Hall which is technically in Dunsley (Sandsend) which is a good 3 miles away.

    2. There isn't a promenade in Whitby unless you count Battery Parade which is all of 10 yards long. There is a street alongside the harbour (St Ann's Staithe) and that leads towards the pier but I wouldn't describe it as a promenade.

Unless things have changed in my home town, to be fair I don't live there now but I go back regularly, they've got it wrong again.

BUT they are right about one thing - our fish and chips are the best!

Finished the latest omnibus and it sounds as if Elizabeth has reconciled with David. Thus, the non-plused receipt and acceptance by Ruth and David to a Christmas party at Elizabeth's. When did this reconciliation happen? I've been listening faithfully here in the USA and have not heard this.

how much longer is Matt going to put up with Lillian? I would have thought her persistently offensive behaviour towards him - and that's without him knowing about her antics with creepy Paul - would have had him and her living at opposite ends of the house by now (with James whingeing away somewhere in the middle).

Finally the nation can sigh with relief that they have got together. Its taken long enough and to be fair I think they will make a wonderful couple. Well done writers.

Did I hear Lizzie mention a booking at Pargeter Towers by the polystyrene people? Are these people related to the famous but elusive all purpose Foam Rubber People (FRP)at Grey Gables some years ago. It brought back many happy memories of my Archers Addiction. XX

  • Vicky - enough is enough!

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 11/09/2012 12:07:26 by CaptainSwing
I've become increasingly concerned that the Mike/Vicky storyline is becoming little more than a nightly publicity slot for the anti-abortion lobby. Mike's thoughts and feelings are being dismissed and ignored and everybody talks of "bringing him round" to Vicky's point of view, rather than sitting down and discussing his concerns with him. The nadir was reached on Monday night when Brenda, supposedly reading from something Vicky showed her, gave out a speech which could have been lifted straight from a hand out by "LIFE" (and probably was). As far as the abortion question goes, I personally have no strong views one way or the other, but there are 2 sides to every argument and it's disconcerting that a supposedly-objective, publicly-funded broadcaster shoud only be promulgating one of them.
