TheArchers was originally started to act as information vehicle for farmers.

Yet none of this torrential rain and floods have been mentioned. I imagine David is the only farmer in the country able to think about 'getting ready for harvest'. Most farmers are contemplating mud filled fields!

I have not heard one shower of rain this year on The Archers

Brian and Jennifer were discussing the harvest on Friday evening, and David mentions it quite a bit, no mention of the rain that has blighted the rest of the country. Does it not rain in Borsetshire?

Where is the "agricultural advisor" these days? Obviously not keeping up with events on the land.

Come on scriptwriters, where are you?

Surely the "agricultural advisor" should have noticed that the rain has been pouring down! Usually events like the weather, agricultural shows and so on are mentioned in the episodes - so there is someone who keeps the programme up to date. What has happened here?

Well I have signed up simply to comment on exactly the same thing!

Every farmer I know ( which is quite a few!) is having a bad time with the weather. No one has been able to get a single hay crop in and they are feeding the cattle as they are having to keep them in the barns due to flooded fields.... Agricultural shows are being cancelled and rained off due to seas of mud etc etc. But not a mutter about all these problems on the Archers.

    So what gives?
I noticed they do mention things that has been recently featured on Radio 4 about the milk prices so I am wondering if their 'agricultural' advisor on the Archers these days is just someone who searches the web for farming news, but has no genuine contact with issues happening out in the real world?

The programme long ago gave up any pretence about having anything to do with real farming. It currently has as much relevance to modern agriculture as The Woodentops (except that the storylines in The Woodentops are more believable)

Obviously out of touch again - the Borsetshire show went ahead while most shows are being cancelled.

Most of the smaller agricultural shows round me are being cancelled but the Great Yorkshire Show is going ahead but I think it will be horrendous and I'm staying away this year given I know how waterlogged it is in that part of the county.

Our family is facing a diffcult year because there's not enough sun to dry out fields and ripen crops which are on the verge of being lost - we can't silage - we can't harvest - luckily the lamb yield has been good this year but all the farmers I know (us included) are seriously counting the cost of another poor summer.

I'm moving to the sunnier climes of Ambridge, oh hang on, I don't want to get dodgy phone calls from West Country mafia gangs...
