In the writers' persistent quest for dramatic story-twists, the plots are becoming ludicrous. Why would anyone called John Phillips be nicknamed "Richie"?

Oh, I don't know that it's particularly implausible. People acquire their nicknames in all kinds of ways, and very often the nickname has nothing to do with their given name. (Why was Lord Alfred Douglas known as 'Bosie' for example?) Maybe 'Rich' is related to Sharon's former surname 'Richards', or maybe it comes from some other source entirely.
Who cares? It was a great punch-line in a good episode, in my view, and now #hisnameisJohn is a hashtag on Twitter. Twitter fans, let's see if we can get it 'trending'!

I agree with Captain Swing. That punchline was ludicrous. The Archers has jumped the shark!

Why is it ludicrous that a woman would name her son after his dead father?

Errm ... it's ludicrous that a boy called John Phillips would have the nickname 'Richie'.

Well, the nickname is not ludicrous to me, for at least two reasons, as I've already explained. And it was a good punch-line; I enjoyed it!
