We never here about Ed getting benefits, surely he's entitled to something with a kid to support. Does Will pay maintenance for his kid? should be £60-£70 a week.
In fact we never here much about benefits. May be useful for listeners.

I agree. I'm getting exasperated by this story line - can't someone tell Ed and Emma about tax credits? Also I don't understand why Emma is so reluctant to ask Susan to care for Keira for a few hours so she can look for more work. Completely unrealistic - lots of grandparents do childcare.

Well playing devil's advocate, I know Susan works part-time but she does work part-time at two jobs - the Community Shop and the Dairy. I daresay she has her hands pretty full! Like you, I am curious about the tax credits though. I suppose the key is that Ed and Emma need to seek help, and if they are so ashamed perhaps they are struggling to admit they have a problem? KW

Not sure what supermarket they shop at but I thought I heard Emma complain that toothpaste was £4. Even Waitrose has a large tube of Colgate for £2.99

Times are hard for everyone but at least Ed is working - I can't believe they are that badly off. I am wondering if this is a ploy by the script writers to introduce another crazy 'real life crisis' story line:-

Emma gets a loan off Wonga.com - say £100 and ends up owing £3.5m after not keeping up with repayments for 6 weeks or something. It is a very topical issue.

Here, at Hamster Towers, times have been difficult after a tough year in farm land and we're all doing extra work to make ends meet. There are quite a few extra jobs with Christmas approaching so hopefully Ed or Emma can get some gainful temporary work to alleviate their poverty.
Either that or George will be off up chimneys come the New Year!

I spelt hear wrong, must be heading to Jack Woolley land! A story I think was done well btw.
Child allowance is £33 a week for 2 kids, Will must be paying over £60 a week since he has a good job and his own house. They must have free milk and grow all their own veg. If Ed is working for nothing then tax credits kick in, working and child. So would George really just have chips and Emma missing meals?

I think Emma could be tasked with dressing all the Grundy turkeys this year. Mind you, she might not get much cash - more likely to get an endless supply of Eddie's cider and Clarrie's cakes - mind you, doesn't sound too bad! KW

These story lines are completely exasperating -just like other soaps in that we are expected to believe that people can make ends meet when they just do a few hours cleaning or bar work!! I ask you. Socially people need to be informed as much about benefits as they do AIDS.

Ed and Emma should get nothing they have lied and cheated and even used a new born baby against Will I hope George goes to live with him. Emma will be off at the first sign of attention and or money,

I agree that there is something not quite real about this storyline and needs to be fleshed out. It might turn out that they have been trying to avoid claiming benefits - this does happen in spite of what we hear to the contrary.

I can't bear Will though - he needs to learn a lesson. And his attitude is much more to do with his relationship with Ed than his concerns for his son. His behaviour will fuel problems for years, he needs to pay attention to his whole family.

Surely its about time the writers gave Ed and Emma a break from their misery. I know its trying to be life like and yes times are hard but they really are going from one disaster to another.

Very concerned about Ed now. He has had mental health issues in the past. It's time David noticed something is really wrong and got him some help with his NFU hat on.
