I'm not sure that this is the right place to post this, but I'm very disappointed to learn that Denny, our top 'Busy Bee' no longer posts here because of difficulties navigating this site. I learnt this through visiting the BBC 'Discuss the Archers' messageboard, a place where I never post, but occasionally do read.
Not sure if Denny still reads this board, but I do hope Denny will return!

Agree absolutely. Don't hear from Teabag alll that often either, and Plumber appears to be no longer on the site.

Teabag is often to be found on Facebook, The Archers Addicts group there - not sure about Plumber. Social networking means that people tend to migrate I think, and of course a lot of people read the various messages but don't want to post. We are looking at a couple of changes in the way the Forum looks so perhaps we'll be able to entice Denny back.

Pleased to learn that a few changes may be made to the Forum, I think it might encourage more posting. I've sort of got used to its idiosyncracies now, but I do miss former posters as above - and Ella, Laurie and Penfold too. Though of course I appreciate that people stop posting for all sorts of reasons.

I used to post on the ‘old’ site but I’m afraid I haven’t been happy since it changed. I do look in from time to time but nothing like before when I had to drag myself off it to do something more ‘useful’! It seems that messages are posted in different places – Catch Up, Forum – and I haven’t got the inclination to search all over for anything new. I really miss the old ‘New’ marker too.

This isn’t intended as a moan about the site. It obviously works for most people now. This is just by way of an explanation why I don’t post anything anymore (except for this one occasion!).

Hi to everyone who might remember me.

I can't understand when I log in, why it is that I have to type the words that I see at the bottom.

Hi joeybettany. Typing in the two words at the bottom tells us that you are a human being (!) and not a piece of software designed to spam our website. I'm afraid we've had some problems with companies trying to use our website to sell their dodgy rolex watches so we've had to up our security. Apologies for any inconvenience. KW

There are a few tweaks that could greatly improve useability, in my opinion (cue Tracy-esque room requests):

Having a marker that denotes 'new' or updated posts, and the last user to post in a thread, is very useful.

Many forum sites now employee a sort of 'point' system that tracks how many posts a user makes...it is used to distinguish those who have a reputation for good discussion, and being active on the site. There is usually a graphic representation of their longevity - what if you created a certain level of user (in addition to regular, administrator, etc in the content management settings) for those users who were known and trusted, who would not have to mess with Captchas? It would be a nice reward to loyal participants.

These are, of course, just suggestions. The Captcha is honestly pretty ghastly, even for someone with good vision. There are less difficult versions that are still effective.

Loads of old faces have dissapeared - as predicted, since the changes. This new format is rubbish. Sorry KP but you made lots of promises about improving the site but the truth is it's a shadow of it's former self. I've never heard a reason why some humble pie can't be eaten and we can't revert to the old system? Remember those Thursday nights when the Bull chatroom was always buzzing? It wasn't broken so why fix it???

Hi -Thanks for the comments. The idea we had was that anyone who wished could make a comment on any page in the site and that they wouldn't have to register to do so. This has had partial success for the Forum because the process is more complicated to accomodate that idea as well as the usual Message Board procedure.

The updated post marker is a good idea and we also feel that we can make the message lay-out more friendly. We do have the Busy Bees, Charles, bottom right of the screen, which show the top posters. Captcha was set up in response to spammers trying to squat the site and is a sign of the times. By all means point us in the direction of effective alternatives, I know what you mean about difficulty in reading the words but thought it was my age!
