Pat and Tony obviously found this very difficult and very emotional. A bit much to hear Pat saying in terms of affection, 'She looks just like Sharon...'. And Helen's about face is unbelievalble! Actually seeming to WANT her mother to see Rich/John! For heavens sake Helen, please don't try to 'help' though, dear.
  • Alan's Lent Initiative, naive or stupid?

Posted during the last 3 days.  Added 20/02/2012 00:16:51 by PCCMember
St Stephen's is a beacon to all village churches. A congregation made up of so many in the community and from all classes seems straight out of an Agatha Christie 1930's novel and a wonder in our present more secular age.
Perhaps it is Alan's skill in the pulpit that draws them in, or perhaps the scripts are written by people who gain their ideas of what village church attendance is like from watching too much ITV3.
Not gossiping and being positive with one another should give rise to some thrilling instalments although the writ of the dear old C of E tends not to run very far these days so I suspect it will be business as usual soon enough.
Down in our neck of the woods most of the congregation come to church primarily for a good gossip. Our previous incumbent's home life was a particularly rich source and our new one seems to be displaying similarly colourful tendencies, we can but hope.
Women vicars have been known to indulge in gossip themselves and are certainly much more sensitive (paranoid would be too strong) to any hint of criticism than their male equivalents. Oh Lord what is to become of us once we have lady bishops?

  • Slurry Solving

Poor old David and Ruth (ooooh noooo)and the badgers!

David is taking an age to come up with decisions, I know these things take time but shall we help him out?

How would we solve the slurry problem?
    Get a tank?
    Line the existing pit?
    Give the badgers knighthoods?
Get rid of the dairy herd altogether?
Give in to Brian's request for arable crops and ditch everything else?

What would you suggest to David and Ruth?
  • Alastair drives me mad!

Posted during the last 7 days.  Added 19/02/2012 11:00:07 by rupertsmum
I was really cross just hearing Alastair going on about Topper! Does he forget how Shoooooolagh stood by him whe he gambled away all that money. Now ie hs daring to question her kind action in taking on Topper. He is a vet - surely they earn decent money and she has the business which should support another horse.

What annoys me in the Archers is that past events are never mentioned. The little girl who has gone to South Africa is never mentioned, Roarrie is never discussed at all.
Sometimes I think The Archers does not have a pst!!

    Why is this?

Please can anyone tell me who played the small part of the man who was trying to sell roses to Nic and Christopher in last night's epiosde?
  • The Archers is monarchy biased

I just listened to tonight's programme. There was much discussion amongst the self-evidently monarchy supporting parish councillors about the jubilee beacon, jubilee procession etc. etc. etc.

Where was a counter argument or dissenting voice from the republican side of things? The BBC is required to be fair and balanced.

I thought Jill was meant to be a blonde when she first met Phil and in the early part of her marriage yet in all the photos we see of her from those years, she has very dark hair. When did she change it I wonder?!!
  • Nigel's old horse and the glue factory

It's just a thought but the horse is pretty ancient and shifting it between owners all the time is very bad for it. Maybe the glue factory would be a more humane option.

Is anyome else other than me becoming increasingly nervous lately whenever Tony is in a scene coming up to the closing signature tune?

I read in the papers that every resident of a Spanish village has just won a share of their El Gordo lottery syndicate (only one unlucky villager opted out - I bet he is kicking himself now. Each £4 syndicate ticket won its bearer £83,000 and several folk bought multiple tickets.

How about an Ambridge scoop of the Euromillions jackpot? Who shall we name as the unlucky numpty who didn't buy a ticket? I vote for Tony - it will give him even more to whinge and moan about.
  • Neil and Tracey, shocking plot twist

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 02/02/2012 22:55:33 by PCCMember
I think it will only be a matter of a week or so until we are treated to the first on air kiss. According to all I have seen on the Jeremy Kyle morning programme it happens quite a lot and if Tracey has a tattoo it would be almost a certainty.
Susan will kick herself for allowing Tracey to stay for so long, but we've all done it, so cheer up, at least its in the family.
There are worse crimes a pig farmer might be accused of,(especially here in the West country)............ for instance not filling out his DEFRA forms correctly.
We are having badger trouble in the churchyard again, does anyone know if the law concerning them has changed yet?

  • Tracey Horribin

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 30/01/2012 13:00:09 by Hamster
Is it me - or - is Tracey getting so annoying with her selfish attitude.
All she thinks about is 'her' room and nothing else. What about Brad and Chelsea's room or Neil's level of tiredness?

Also I think she has a sneaky plan to chuck out Gary and her Dad so she can have the place to herself.

All the attention on the Mega Dairy and the launch of Ambridge Organics is detracting from a smouldering fire methinks.
  • Baby noise

Why do we have to listen to the endless babbling of Helen's baby in the background? Doesn't it ever sleep? Surely she could put it upstairs when she's talking to people.
  • Come back Denny!

I'm not sure that this is the right place to post this, but I'm very disappointed to learn that Denny, our top 'Busy Bee' no longer posts here because of difficulties navigating this site. I learnt this through visiting the BBC 'Discuss the Archers' messageboard, a place where I never post, but occasionally do read.
Not sure if Denny still reads this board, but I do hope Denny will return!

    Archers Addicts,

I need true fans to help as part of a research project into ‘The Archers’. I am looking for a range of different people who think social media and networking sites like this aid to the programming output.
If you could post below a small statement about yourself and how and why you use Archers addicts I would be very grateful!!

  • Mega Dairy

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 24/01/2012 13:05:08 by basstrom188
This has certainly stirred the ire of the sanctimonious residents of Ambridge especially that hair shirt Pat. Dairy farming whether it be cows in fields or in sheds is not exactly natural is it? Is it natural for example to force a cow lactate far beyond the needs of her calf, and expect the poor creature to drag around an udder the size of a planet? Whatever way you look at it organic, non-organic or mega dairy its all an industrial process.
  • Internet Problems?

Grey Gables wouldn't need the internet for their internal bookings management, nor for communication between restaurant and kitchen. All would be done on a local network.
  • Communication problems in Ambridge

When I tried to post a message on the forum earlier today I kept on reciveing an error message. I wondered whether the theft of the cables that have affected the phones and the internet in Ambridge this week were also affecting communications to Archers Addicts!

The cabling problem in Ambridge has been caused by the theft of copper wire. I wonder if Clive Horrobin could be mixed up with those who were involved in the theft?

The latest series of "Ambridge Extra" finished last week. I hope another series is in the pipeline and that Ambridge Extra will be back before too long!

Presumably some of the storylines that have featured in the latest series of Ambridge Extra will be referred to in the main programme. Already we have had a cryptic remark from Shula that Alastair is very good at keeping secrets!

Listening to my favourite Archers programme these days makes me wonder where the spirit has gone that saw us through two World Wars. Too many of the characters are crying in their beer. Would they had been such softies when we stood alone?
  • Good old 'Jazzer'!

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 28/12/2011 12:30:50 by joeybettany
Last night I listened to 'In Touch', in which Ryan Kelly talked about his life and his role as Jazzer in T. A. Truly inspirational! The producer explained that is very rare for a blind actor to portray a sighted one, although fairly common the other way round and quite often rather badly done.

Ryan has his scripts emailed to his talking computer; I had often wondered how he managed - he is so fluent and natural. The producer also asked Ryan about the future, regarding whether or not he saw the character of Jazzer as continuing indefinitely. Ryan was positive about this, for as he pointed out, Jazzer is a very popular character.

Yes, three cheers for Ryan - a great actor and a great singer! Good on you Jazzer! You really bring life to a sometimes rather smug, self-satisfied Ambridge. Carry on shaking 'em up!

What a totally loathsome coupole of creeps! I think Helen is an utter beast. I have not really heard such a selfish couple! Don't they want anything nice for their parents?

Please bring back some 'normal' storylines. Reaching the end of my tether. Vile! Vile!
  • Jazzer's Song

Lovely to hear Jazzer's wonderful singing voice tonight, but for once I have to side with Lynda and Vicky (perish the thought) - didn't like his choice of song at all and very surprised to hear him pouring scorn on traditional Scottish songs as he certainly sang one last time. Come on, Jazzer - there's a wealth of glorious authentic material out there. Do your bit for Scotland!

In the writers' persistent quest for dramatic story-twists, the plots are becoming ludicrous. Why would anyone called John Phillips be nicknamed "Richie"?

  • Richard and the future of Bridge Farm

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 14/12/2011 14:43:26 by PCCMember
'Poor Pat' is thinking of a way forward when all avenues seem closed. Why not offer the lure of inheriting the farm? 'Rich' is, afterall, the only son of her eldest son. Sharon and Eamon (?) sound like the sort of people who might go for that (I saw some awful film once about an Irish chap getting very bothered about owning a field in some bog and got the distinct impression it means a lot to them) worth a try anyway.
Tom and Helen would soon get used to the idea, rather like we have all welcomed sharing our hospitals housing and schools with those nice people from Poland and elsewhere who were welcomed into our 'family' when Dear Tony agreed to EU enlargement. At least our young graduates no longer have to look for work, there are no jobs left.
Look on the bright side all. PCCMember.
  • Has the Sharon/Pat story been a sleeper?

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 08/12/2011 22:14:55 by loxelybeau
After listening to Sharon's Hardyesque story of her walk to Bridge Farm after John's death, I'm wondering: Was there an episode at the time when this "really" happened and were the editors laying down a storyline that would be picked up 13 years later. Or are they just making it all up?
  • How very rude of Sharon

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 08/12/2011 15:53:43 by anon
Oh dear oh dear oh dear, how very rude Sharon was on the phone to 'Poor Pat'. Talk about bearing a grudge, has she never heard of letting bygones be bygones? Say what you like, we'd all have given Sharon her marching orders 14 years or so ago, she was a trifle vin ordinaire so not really very suitable for John. Had he lived he'd probably have helped her organise a termination, which is a trifle ironic (perhaps she should have called him John!). Anyway we can all look forward to bags of angst and hand wringing from 'Poor Pat' for the next two months (dear Lord), or will there be a Christmas resolution of the issue to give us all a warm glow?
I still maintain that a morning with Jeremy Kyle would sort it all out, he and his friend, the show's psychiatrist, would soon put things right, and save us poor listeners weeks of misery.
Merry Xmas all, must dash the lady Vicar is on her way for a PCC and I haven't written the minutes for September yet!!
Final thought, had there been terminations around 2000 years ago our Carol Service might have been a non runner! Phew!

  • Sharon and Pat: great episode!

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 08/12/2011 08:09:51 by Floradora
That was a great episode (Wed. 7th Dec.) Sharon told Pat some home truths, and Pat's own harsh words to Sharon all those years ago have come back to haunt her with a vengeance. Really enjoyed the drama AND it was a triumph of continuity for those of us who may have felt at the time that Pat was wrong to speak to Sharon so severely after John's death when she met her again. Yes, Sharon was depicted as rather a 'good time girl' in those days, but surely John had a mind of his own and hadn't just been entrapped in the coils of a seductress!
Pat can be rather judgemental (I remember her unfeeling remarks about Greg after his suicide, even though she'd suffered from depression too!)
