Denny, if you are not keen on busy bees maybe you should stop replying to your own threads! Seriously though I agree with you, there is a danger that people will post nonsense just to get in the top ten.

The list may have some use in being able to look up posts that have gone off the forum I suppose. Other than that I don't mind one way or the other. I certainly wouldn't post just to climb the chart. I think, like Denny, I'd hold back if I thought I was posting too often. (will have to be careful, I'm in second place!) There were times on the old board that and Ella and me (who we now miss) would vow we wouldn't start another thread until someone else did!

(You're not posting too often Denny!)

I use another forum very regularly and there are people on there with over 30,000 posts (having been members for only a couple of years). I don't think I have 30,000 points to make!

It's just a number... does it really mean anything? I agree with you Vicky... it was good to be able to read older posts - from that point of view I hope it stays.

Do we have to have this?
    I don't want it

I'm really not keen on it at all. It seems to put people into competition with each other.
    Agree

I'm also dismayed to find myself right at the top.
    Yep

I would be far happier not on the board at all.
    Me too

I feel inhibited about replying to posts in case I just go off the scale!
    Yes

I've tried to write as many posts as posible to keep the site going while it is in transition, and I am dismayed to discover that I have been dominating the board.
    Agree again

I was so dismayed I stopped posting for a while.
    Shame.

Did anyone ask for this feature? Did anyone ask for it to be labelled in such a patronising way?
    I DO hope not
Do people like being on it?
    DEFINITELY NOT

It is here to be used. What does it matter as long as people have points to make? If someone's life is so sad and empty that the only way they can get their kicks is to dominate TA's boards then so be it. It's a harmless way of passing the time and always there are some whose sole aim in life is to get noticed, be the best in whatever they do and say the most if part of a group that either meets face to face or on a site like this. As there are no prizes for regular postings or points awarded for lots of entries then no harm is being done and the competition element is vacuous. On my local radio station they have a virtual prize for guessing lyrics to a song which the presenter reads out. The same old names appear every day. So what! It's harmless and fun and we could all be doing a lot worse in the world. Some would say we could pass our time more productively but that's our business. On that basis we may as well not have a forum in case some clever devil thinks we should all be reading Milton or listening to improving music or learning a language. Who's to say that some of us aren't doing any or all of that? The common theme that links us is our love of the Archers, the fact that we have listened for ages or not for long and if we were all stamp collectors, doubtless we'd be associating or communicating with other stamp collectors who would be busting to show us the rarities we don't have yet or the numbr of stamps they have in contrast to us. That's human nature and it's better than going to war, gossiping about our neighbours, beating our dogs and children and stealing another's partner. Just relax and enjoy what TA has to offer and what Archers Addicts provides Namely harmless fun, enjoyment and a way of passing time with people linked by a common theme.
