Joe is waiting impatiently at The Bull for his birthday breakfast. Admiring Joe’s ‘party’ attitude, Rhys offers him and Eddie tickets to the comedy night and they buy two. When Mike joins them, he stuns Joe and Eddie with his news about the baby. They both think Mike’s very brave, but Joe’s response makes Eddie feel awkward.

Ruth has cooked David a fry up for his birthday. She’s booked some theatre tickets and a night in a hotel. David’s looking forward to it.

Adam arrives at Brookfield to check out their maize. Ruth doesn’t like the thought that their crop is giving Debbie ideas for the dairy. A present arrives from Elizabeth. David’s pleased when he reads her message which says that she’s looking forward to the future.

Pawel turns up on Jennifer’s doorstep to say goodbye to Adam. Jennifer tells Pawel that Adam has always been very complimentary about him and that he’s welcome back next year if he wants to come back.

Later on, David and Ruth join the Grundys at The Bull. Joe and David reflect on their respective birthdays, with Joe rating his as passable and David saying it’s been the best he’s had in years. Rhys manages to sell a comedy night ticket to Ruth and says he wants the night to be a big success.
