Amy tells Usha that Carl has dumped her. Usha consoles her, remarking that men like Carl can be very convincing. Puzzled, Amy asks Usha what she means. Amy is horrified when she realises that Carl is married, but she’s more upset about the fact Usha knew. Amy wonders why on earth Usha didn’t tell her. Apologising, Usha explains she was in a quandary, as she wasn’t sure whether Amy already knew. This is the last straw for Amy who can’t believe Usha would think she’d knowingly date a married man. Appalled, Amy storms out.
Meanwhile, an unsuspecting Alice chats to Alan about what a brilliant time Amy had in Bristol. Later on however, Alice receives a distress call from Amy asking if she can come over… Amy wonders whether Carl has split up with his wife. He was so caring; Amy just can’t believe he’d do this to her. Alice tries gently to encourage her to accept the truth. Amy says she can never forgive Usha.
Alan’s just as appalled as Amy over Usha’s confession. He accuses Usha of not knowing Amy at all. Alan is clearly distraught and unsure what to do. He says there has never been a time when Amy couldn’t talk to him about her problems. Blaming Usha for Amy’s withdrawal, Alan leaves - he needs time alone to think and pray.
