Ian describes in detail the quality and surroundings of the restaurant he’s chosen for Adam’s birthday. However, when an exhausted Adam arrives home, Ian directs him to his eveningwear: a pair of swimming shorts. Ian declares their evening is to consist of steak and a dip in the hot tub.

Alan is making the final preparations for Usha’s birthday party. He’s bowled over by how fantastic she looks. Alan gives Usha a beautiful necklace and tells her to enjoy her night without worrying about Amy. As Usha is about to take to the dance floor, Amy arrives. She’s contrite, and the two of them hug tightly.

Pip gets a nasty shock when an anonymous caller informs her that they are watching her family. When a shaky Pip summons Ruth home, Ruth questions her closely. Having ascertained that Josh and Ben are safe, Ruth calls the police. Ruth tells David that she can’t possibly go to Usha’s party now. She wants everyone to stay inside. David tries to reassure her, saying he’ll get advice from the police on how to deal with the situation and will speak to Ben’s teachers. None of this is good enough for Ruth who thinks David is being too relaxed about it. She wants him to pull out of testifying, saying this has to stop, now.
