Villagers and family gather together for Ivy Horrobin’s funeral. There are dismissive comments about the Horrobin family, with the exception of Kylie who impresses and intrigues everyone. It seems she has met the whole family except for her father, Clive.
Clive and Tracy talk about Ivy. They think Bert will be better once the funeral’s over and done with. Tracy feels guilty when she thinks of all that Ivy did for them. Clive asks Susan about the girl she was talking to earlier. He says he’ll talk to her after the service.
Once at The Bull, Tracy and Clive hit the bar rather hard. Clive decides that this is the right time to introduce himself to Kylie. Sad and confused, Kylie asks why, in twenty-two years, he never made an effort to communicate with her. The final straw comes when, in a drunken and desperate attempt to win Kylie over, Clive offers her Ivy’s rings. Susan confronts her brother, insinuating that he stole the rings or sweet-talked Bert into giving them to him. Angry, Susan chases Clive away. Declaring he’s done with his family, Clive vows he’ll never to come back. A distraught Kylie begs to go home, breaking down in Susan’s arms.
