After her row with David yesterday, Elizabeth is struggling to cope with work. She snaps at Roy while he briefs her on upcoming events, and she is quick to hang up the phone to Jill. She recalls fond memories of Nigel with Freddie, who is writing one of Nigel’s stories for school. Freddie asks if she’s all right. Elizabeth assures him that they will be fine and that’s all that matters.

Ruth is very worried about David who is distracting himself with work. Ruth urges him to take a break and refuel. She compels him to not feel guilty for Nigel’s death and reiterates the fact it was an accident. David thanks Ruth for her concern, but jumps at the chance to carry on with some more work.

Ruth calls round to see Jill. As she waits for her, Eddie chunters on about Matt Crawford cutting corners on the work being done to Number Three. When Jill turns up, Eddie gets the hint and leaves them to it. Ruth describes David and Elizabeth’s terrible row. Jill hopes the situation will improve of its own accord. However, unable to forgive himself for what happened, David’s certain that Elizabeth will never forgive him. He doesn’t know how he’s supposed to live with that knowledge.
