Hiding inside the churchyard, Lynda calls to Jamie as he walks past. She shows him the newly hatched peregrine, but he’s more interested in how the adults killed the blackbird they’re eating.
Since Eddie is busy, David plans to ask Ed to work an extra shift and help him with the hauling. David seems distant and Ruth struggles to engage him; she’s worried he’s working too hard.
Later on, Ruth admits to Jill that David is acting strangely all the time now, remarking he’s getting worse rather than better. Ruth realises that David really does blame himself for Nigel’s death. However, she’s angry that Elizabeth is being so difficult. Jill explains that Elizabeth is very confused by the whole situation. They determine to try and keep the family together, for the sake of the children if nothing else.
When Jamie asks Jolene why she has reduced his hours, she tells him it’s because they’re reorganising things at The Bull. Jolene no longer needs Jamie on Saturdays, but he can still do the Sunday shift and there might be more work for him when things pick up in the summer. Jamie thinks that Jolene is starting to act like his mum. In need of money and annoyed, he makes an abrupt exit.
