Elizabeth breaks the news to Roy that they can no longer afford to keep Jessica and her birds at Lower Loxley. She then breaks the news to Jessica who is very upset. Elizabeth vows to investigate other places that might be interested in falconry. Better news comes from the Vineyards Association whose wines have achieved Regional status again this year. With English Wine Week coming up, Roy suggests they put their heads together to tackle advertising and marketing. Changing the subject, Elizabeth mentions that Jennifer has been asking for advice on boarding schools. She was particularly interested in why Elizabeth and Nigel decided not to send the twins away to board.

Will wants to spoil Clarrie on her birthday and is grateful to Nic who makes a cake for her. Nic enjoys the evening, but her cheery manner seems a bit forced. Clarrie mentions Joe’s newfound interest in the book club. George is unhappy when he has to go home to Ed and Emma, but Will promises they’ll have fun on Saturday. Over drinks, Clarrie becomes sentimental about having children. As Nic moves away from the group, Clarrie comments that Nic’s been quiet this evening. Will assures her that everything is fine.
