Judy joined the cast if The Archers in 1971 to play Shula, and because she specialises in children’s voices she has also played Shula’s twin brother Kenton, her sister Elizabeth and even Adam Travers-Macy in their adolescence. Judy was educated at a Liverpool Convent Grammar School and gave her first public performance when she was fourteen playing St. Bernadette in the City’s Philharmonic Hall. After studying at the Guildford School of Music and Drama she got her first job as an assistant stage manager and understudy in The Chinese Prime Minister at The Globe Theatre in London. In 1966 she auditioned for BBC’s schools radio and was cast as a boy by producer Richard Wortley. More radio work followed including parts in The Dales and Waggoners Walk before she joined The Archers. Judy’s voice can also be heard in numerous television cartoon and puppet shows and she presented the pre-school radio programme Playtime for nine years. Judy is married to Charles Collingwood (Brian Aldridge) and they have three children, Toby, Barnaby and Jane.
